After 10 years, sheqafrica.com will be relocating. The publication was established in 2007 by Ben Fouché under the banner of Real Babe Media, and was sold to De Novo Media in May 2016. Battling to turn the website into an income generating publication, De Novo pulled out in April 2017, after running up a debt account greater than planned for. The decision to shut the site down, despite fierce opposition, was taken after the Cygma Group UK, decided to alter the direction of sheqafrica.com.
The good news is that the entire publication will be moved to a local domain, sheqafrica.co.za, and will be an exact duplicate of the .com site. The Cygma Group offered shares in the new site at R500 per unit, and thus far have sold a single share to A & W Consultants in Johannesburg.
Sheqafrica.co.za will continue the 10 year legacy of its founding website from 1 July 2017.
Sheqafrica.com will change on 1 June 2017 to sabizonline.net, and will focus on South African Businesses under private ownership with news and articles focusing on local businesses to increase their sales and customer base.
Current newsletter subscribers will be migrated to the sheqafrica.co.za website and will continue to receive the free newsletter, but the frequency will change from weekly to monthly, in order to reduce editorial costs.
Speaking for SABizonline.net, Andrea Steward, National Advertising Sales director, said: “We are excited ‘bout this opportunity. We have been hoping to get into the online marketing arena and have managed to secure the advertising rights for this unique concept. Sheqafrica.com has huge potential to become a world-class publication.”
Rudy Maritz, Cygma’s CEO in South Africa, made the decision to sell after evaluating the company’s position in South Africa. “It just made sense. We have lost too much in the SHEQ industry. This new direction will increase our market and still benefit our SHEQ operations as we will continue our advertising with SAbizonline.net. We have seen a dramatic rise in our website visitor numbers since we started advertising on sheqafrica.com. This new direction will further increase our brand’s value.”
